Some days this vision is cruising at an altitude that seems out of this atmosphere, especially to people close to me. Then other times this vision is too big for me. I believe that when I start to move into parts of this masterpiece that I yet to receive revelation on, I feel out of my depth and doubt creeps in. I am constantly still growing into this revelation, and right now doubt outweighs my faith. This becomes painfully obvious when I am running short on prayer and the Word of God. When I’m operating within my own will [the faculty by which a person decides on and initiates action], I run out of gas. When I fill up on the Word, as well as praise and worship, God reconnects me to his Jurassic Plan. I then fall back into my slot which is ONLY the current steward, and a reminder that I must let the Boss be the Boss. That’s when I see supernatural things take place and destiny intersections align.
My oldest son Jermaine is a math whiz, he truly gets that from me. He also seemed to inherit my ability to find shortcuts in problem solving. So instead of listening to his teacher lecture, he summarizes what his teacher is saying and uses the context clues to find his own path to solving problems. Impressive right? Well to a point. However, it is my belief that as his math gets more complicated he will miss the fundamentals and therefore at the foundation he will be inadequate. So what I do as someone who suffers/benefits from this same gift/curse for his development? I have to challenge him fundamentally. I do not check his answers in homework, I check his process. I make him teach me at the whiteboard. He struggles. I am encouraged by his weaknesses, as it identifies areas together we both must work on. He knows it as well. God is the same when it comes to us. We must not hide our weaknesses from Him (not that we can anyway), but bring them to Him, and let Him work with us in truth. We must do this in our most vulnerable state.
Do you make the same mistake with the vision that God put into you? Ever start to think that you know how to get to where you're going better than the teacher? Have you forgotten to stay connected to His word? His lecture? We venture out without Him, we get a few answers correct, and before we know it we think we have it all figured out. Then it happens. You realize you are operating under your own power [ability to do something or act in a particular way, especially as a faculty or quality] and reality sets in. It's too Jurassic for you. You dope, but you NOT THAT DOPE! (My high school English teacher would kill me for that sentence, but there is no other way to put that)
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
I am the Vine, you are the branches. (John 15:5) MSG
“ I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing. Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire. But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon. This is how my Father shows who he is—when you produce grapes, when you mature as my disciples.”
How do we remember to stay connected to the source? My best bud and fellow Co-Founder, Marcel Brown gave me a strategy his pastor taught him, we write faith confessions.
Merlot Moment 1 - Faith Confessions
[Faith confessions are written statements on a particular area of your life that are in agreement with the Word of God. These confessions are to be said aloud as often as the Holy Spirit leads you to. This allows you to use the authority that God gave you by using your mouth to conquer these areas; "Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction" Proverbs 18:20]
Now where was I? Ah yes, faith confessions keep us mindful of our SLOW FADES. Slow fades happen an inch at a time, meaning they happen a little bit each day. Everyday we get more and more relaxed at the wheel of life, and before we know it we no longer recognize the person we see in the mirror.
This reminds me of the new phenomenon, the Electric Vehicle (EV). The Telsa, invented by Elon Musk, is one of the world's most popular EVs. Its design is composed of 3 different components for energy: the Energy Storage Unit, the Control Unit, and the Propulsion Unit. The Energy Unit is what is charged at the various Super Charging Stations that we see throughout our cities. This energy is then used by the Control Unit and converted to a energy that the Propulsion Unit finds useful to power the EV.
Approximately 240 miles of range is what you get when you are fully charged. You can track it with your App. When the car is locked, you can’t take the charging plug out, it is just like your phone. There is a light around the charger that indicates what stage of charging the Telsa is in: green is charging and white means fully charged. A lot of owners who can afford it have charging stations at home. Some establishments have what's called Super Charging stations. They are becoming more and more common.
The Energy Storage Unit is like our relationship with God. It's where we charge up to go out and carry out the mission and vision He gave us. Now knowing that the Tesla its designed to last for a 240-mile range on average, how far can you go without checking back in and recharging your Energy Unit? Without anything left in your Energy Unit, the Control Unit has no energy to convert for physical use by the Propulsion unit. See where I'm headed?
Speaking Faith Triggers His Divine Assistance
So how do we refocus and get realigned? We speak faith to our situation.
Merlot Moment 2 - Life and Death
["The tongue has the power of life and death" Proverbs 18:21 Notice that this scripture is right after Verse 20 that tells us that we can be satisfied by the fruit of our lips. It means that what we say has the power to nourish us but to also destroy our lives. Even further, what we say can feed and fuel negative energy or destroy the enemy. The choice to extinguish or spread must vary depending upon the direction and aim.]
Lord, thank you for trusting me with your vision. Please refocus and re-energize me to carry out your mission. Forgive me for my slow fades, restore me with creativity and passion. Allow me to make up the ground I lost. Help me to remember that you are the tree, and I am only a branch. In Jesus Name, AMEN.
Scriptures to Keep in Your Back Pocket
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Peter 3:5-12
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9
Now lets get back to it!
